Compass in the Community

Giving back to the communities we serve is the right thing to do. Compass Group is proud of the time, energy and financial resources our businesses and associates contribute to help build stronger, healthier communities.

Our Focus

Compass in the Community supports efforts that align with our business strategy and that meet the needs of our communities. We focus on initiatives that address:

  • Fighting hunger
  • Nutrition education
  • Malnutrition, illness and disease
  • Sustainable food
  • Diversity in the foodservice industry

Methods of Support* **

Corporate Contributions
Compass Group North America supports corporate, social and charitable organizations that are consistent with our approach to Compass in the Community.

Client Support
Our business sectors consider client requests for outreach assistance that are consistent with the focus of Compass in the Community.

Associate Support
Whenever possible, Compass Group supports the efforts of our associates to raise funds and to donate their time and services to initiatives that align with the focus of Compass in the Community.

Compass in the Community associate activities include:

Fight hunger

  • Hosting a food drive
  • Donating surplus food and related items to homeless shelters
  • Adopting families in distress through community action agencies such as:
    • The Salvation Army
    • The American Red Cross

Nutrition education

  • Creating culinary, dietary or nutritional guidelines for clients, customers and community groups

Malnutrition, illness and disease

  • Participating in activities related to nonprofit organizations' events such as:
    • The American Heart Association's Start! Heart Walk
    • The American Diabetes Association's Step Out Walks
    • The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life

Sustainable food

  • Running a recycling program or donating recyclable items for outreach purposes
  • Participating in activities that support local and organic food sources such as an onsite farmers' market
  • Educating clients, customers, vendors and community organizations about sustainability initiatives

Remember.Associates must receive the prior approval of their local leadership and local clients.

Recognition

Compass in the Community North America Awards
A component of the Be-A-star program, these awards recognize accounts and associates whose efforts best align with Compass in the Community and have made the greatest difference to the markets we serve.

Winners are recognized at the annual Be-A-star banquet and charitable contributions are made to nonprofit organizations on behalf of the winners.

Winning Compass in the Community projects share the following criteria:

  • Are far-reaching and help many
  • Promote sustainability
  • Encourage team building by including team members
  • Are well planned, well executed and ongoing
  • Are inclusive of multiple sectors or regions

  • Organizations whose purposes are inconsistent with the Compass Group's Charitable Donation Policy or Code of Ethics
