Regardless of who you are or where you are in your career, personal branding can take you to the next level. Your brand is your reputation. It helps others understand the difference you make because of your value. A strong brand can help set you apart and maximize your career potential. But, before you can promote your brand you will need to define it. Learn more about building your Personal Brand.

Social Media is the key to managing your personal brand. It allows you to have personal relationships with people you would normally not come in contact with and grow your network. By engaging in conversations with thought leaders you will grow your network and increase your visibility.

In a competitive job market it is becoming more and more important to have a strong personal brand. In fact, eighty-five percent of U.S. recruiters and HR professionals say that an employee’s online reputation influences their hiring decisions at least to some extent. Nearly half say that a strong online reputation influences their decisions to a great extent.

But where do you begin? When thinking of your approach I recommend the 4 Be’s: Be Focused, Be Consistent, Be Deliberate, and Be Visible.

Be Focused

Choose 1- 2 social platforms that you are comfortable with and know you can do well. LinkedIn is considered the top platform for job seekers so this one is important. Additionally, it is also the easiest way to market yourself within your current company.

Be Consistent

Use the same name, photo, and look across your profiles. Once you spend the time updating your profiles, maintain them and keep them current.

Be Deliberate

Protecting your brand is important. Make thoughtful connections when growing your network. Form relationships that make sense to you and your goals. Post content and articles that make sense for your brand and align with your values.

Be Visible

Just don’t overshare. Consistently like and share posts weekly. Add value to your networks by posting relevant updates, sharing great content, and being social.

These tips will help you elevate your brand and increase your visibility. The more time you spend cultivating and strengthening your brand, the more success you will find in your career.
